We are excited to welcome several new people to PICC's team! Yeny Romero is PICC’s Youth Organizer. She will be leading PICC's Youth Organizing Project and coordinating our new youth membership structure, and will work closely with other PICC staff to advance our education justice campaigns and capacity building trainings. Yeny is a sister, a daughter, a niece, a cousin, an aunt, a granddaughter, a great granddaughter, a godmother, and a friend. She and her family are from Central America. Yeny is a DACA recipient, who arrived in the United States at the age of six. Her formative years were spent in Reading, Pennsylvania, where she is now surrounded by a diverse community of loving people. Her passion for these life experiences have led her to different roles in leadership for social justice and human rights movements. She graduated from Reading Senior High School and received her undergraduate degree from Alvernia University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Healthcare Science and Healthcare Administration. Yeny enjoys the sciences, as well as the arts and sees herself as a lifelong learner and visionary. She believes there is always something to learn and that there is always something to do. Through this conviction she manifests the Franciscan Values which are To Learn, To Live, To Serve. We are also excited to have two policy interns joining us for the 2019-20 school year! Chris Cannito is a current University of Pennsylvania School social work intern in his second year pursuing the Masters of Social with a dual degree in Nonprofit Leadership. Prior to entering graduate school Chris served as a Peace Corps Volunteer for three years in Eastern Caribbean nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines from 2015-2018. Chris is excited to be working in Philadelphia once more, where he had previously served as an AmeriCorps City Year volunteer within North Philadelphia on a diverse team focused on supporting at-risk youth. Julia Pascoe moved to Philadelphia in 2018 to pursue a Masters of Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently in her second year of the MSW program with a concentration in Macro Social Work, and is particularly interested in global human rights, immigration policy and advocacy, and public health advocacy. Julia graduated from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA in May of 2015 with a BA in International Relations and a minor in Global Development Studies. Julia looks forward to working with immigrant communities and allies to advocate for immigration policy reform and increased accessibility of resources for immigrants throughout Pennsylvania. |
