The Trump administration has introduced a new proposed rule change that would hurt many asylum seekers. The rule change would exclude many asylum seekers based on future contact with the U.S.’s flawed and racist criminal legal system. This would inject further racial profiling into the asylum process and put asylum-seekers at risk of danger - even death. The Immigrant Justice Network and National Immigrant Justice Center have put together a guide for submitting comments, talking points, and a comment template.

- Submit a Comment by Tues. Jan. 21, 2020.
- Call your member of Congress and ask them to support the New Way Forward Act and New Deal for New Americans Act.

PICC's 5th Annual Immigrant and Refugee Rights Convening

We are excited to invite you to PICC's fifth annual Immigrant and Refugee Rights Convening on June 6-8, 2020 at the Hilton Harrisburg, Harrisburg, PA. Join immigrant leaders, advocates, and allies from across Pennsylvania for workshops, networking, and opportunities to meet with legislators about issues important to immigrant and refugee communities. Annual Youth Convening

We believe in the important role and impact of young leaders in our movement. We look forward to our 2020 Youth Convening, which will bring together immigrant youth that originate from different walks of life across PA. During this convening, attendees are able to share their stories and develop leadership skills, organizing skills, and have a chance to build relationships with other youth who share similar experience and goals! Community Navigator Training

We’re committed to supporting the leadership development of our immigrant and refugee community members and building the capacity for member organizations to advance immigrant rights by providing trainings and community education materials. In 2020, we plan on providing at least four Community Navigator trainings across the state to train community members and allies to provide quality immigration information and services. Sarah Noonan Ngwane is PICC's new Civic Engagement Intern. She is currently an undergraduate student at Delaware County Community College pursuing a degree in Social Work and hopes to obtain her MSW following graduation. In high school, she spent two years working with Organizing for America and gained experience during this time in phone banking, canvassing, and community engagement initiatives. During the summer of 2019 she worked as a volunteer with humanitarian aid groups in the borderlands of Arizona and Mexico. She was deeply moved by the life she witnessed in the desert and returned to Philadelphia with a newfound motivation to engage in activist work concerning immigration and citizenship. She is passionate about social justice and is currently working with a local church to create a camp for trans and non-binary youth. Not only is she thrilled to have the opportunity to become a member of the PICC community, but also looks forward to building her skillset and creating connections with new citizens throughout the course of her Civic Engagement Internship.

Gladys is a senior in Norristown Area High School. She is involved in Unidad in her school and Adelante with ACLAMO Family Centers.

Daisy was born in Torreón, Coahuila, México. She migrated to San Antonio, Texas with her family in 2003, where she was raised. Daisy is a DACA beneficiary and is part of a mixed status family. She currently resides in Norristown, PA, and has been a mentor/volunteer at the Centro Cultural de Arte, Trabajo y Educación (CCATE) for over 5 years, where she works with high school students around college access. Daisy first became involved with PICC in 2017 when she organized with other undocumented students to declare the University of Pennsylvania a sanctuary campus.
