Community Legal Services (CLS) provides free civil legal assistance to over 11,900 low-income clients each year, primarily in Philadelphia, who face the threat of losing their homes, incomes, jobs, health care, public benefits, and even their families. CLS represents immigrants regardless of immigration status. Through the efforts of attorneys, paralegals, social workers, and other staff, CLS represents individual clients with a variety of legal problems, works on changing policy at the local, state, and national levels, and provides community and professional education on a wide range of legal topics of concern to low income people and communities. Among other priorities, CLS advocates for the rights of workers, tenants, parents, homeowners, people with disabilities, people who need public benefits like Medical Assistance, SNAP, and cash assistance, and people with limited English proficiency. As a member of PICC, CLS works on access to benefits, language access policies, and legislation. CLS appreciates the rich diversity of coalition partners and values the opportunity to stand up with and for immigrant individuals and families and all of our communities. |
